Sofia Richie (now Grainge) and Elliot Grainge’s iconic spring wedding took place in the South of France – and what an affair it was! Since then, we haven’t been able to stop obsessing over everything from their venue to her multiple gowns, bridal bouquet, star-studded guest list, and everything in between. Interested in learning how you can recreate this over-the-top wedding in a stunning Caribbean setting? We did the research and dug deep for the details so you don’t have to.
The Venue
The Grainges got married at Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc, a breathtaking oceanfront locale in Antibes surrounded by lush greenery and elegant architecture that even the best cameras in the world couldn’t adequately capture. If you’re looking for a venue that’s a bit more accessible, we suggest Villa La Joya in Cancun. Villa La Joya also features stunning oceanfront views where you can exchange vows beneath swaying palm trees and overlooking the Caribbean’s turquoise waters that act as natural décor. Plus, with private beach access, you can celebrate your intimate occasion with the important people in your life without any interruptions. If you love what Villa La Joya has to offer but would prefer a more sheltered location to say, “I do,” the resort’s garden is a beautiful alternative.
The Ceremony
Your ceremony really sets the stage (literally) for your wedding, and we love all the details this iconic celeb couple put into theirs. The best part? It’s easy to recreate in destination. Set your sights on an elegant aisle lined with blooms of white roses, garden roses, lilies, and more leading you to a matching yet magnificent archway (or chuppah in their case), with cascading flowers, greenery, and a view that you can’t beat. Pro tip: support your destination by asking your LUXE wedding consultant for assistance in sourcing local florists. Add a number of destination-safe candles at each row of King Louis XVII chairs (only the best!), and take your steps towards forever as your guests witness the magic of your love.
The Entrance
Looking for an iconic backdrop for your grand entrance before you walk down the aisle? Take inspiration from the Grainges who used their iconic hotel and a larger-than-life arch built with fluffy botanical greens, cherry blossom arbors, roses, lilies, orchids, touches of eucalyptus, and so much more to add more drama and romance.
The Bridesmaids
While it’s important that your bridesmaids look cohesive, that doesn’t mean they have to wear the same style. Take a page out of Sofia’s wedding handbook and keep it black-tie chic with different bridesmaid dresses but all in the same color – and in her case black complemented with white bouquets. We adore wisteria, orchids, and babies breath for a delicate yet bold bouquet that would make a beautiful impact against the black and your décor! If not black, consider choosing a neutral tone or one that makes sense within the context of your destination – don’t forget the tropics’ vibrant colors – and let your bridesmaids have free reign. While your wedding day is all about you, you still want to ensure that your bridesmaids are happy and confident while they’re celebrating alongside you.
The Bride
In love with Sofia’s bridal look? Us too – she wore a fitted A-line lace gown custom designed by Chanel with a halter neck, choker detailing, and dramatic train. You can replicate this look in a variety of materials and detailing, from floral appliques to intricate beading giving you that goddess appeal, flowing silk, and more. Not only does this style of dress look stunning on every figure but its timeless fit will remain a classic for years to come.
The Bouquet
The bride carried a small, simple bouquet of lilies of the valley. In our opinion, this was the perfect choice. The florals were delicate and stunning, and didn’t take away from or overshadow the rest of her wedding look.
The Beauty
Many brides are choosing to go for a more natural look with their hair and makeup to keep their wedding photos looking classy and timeless. To recreate Sofia’s beauty look, opt for an intricately wound bun sitting at the nape of your neck with a center part, keeping the hair out of your face and off your back in the hot Caribbean heat. For makeup, go clean, fresh, and glowing. Choose a light but good coverage foundation, a brush of bronzer, blush on the cheek bones for a pop of color, golden eyeshadow, and a peachy lip – exactly what Sofia Richie chose to do for her look. The final result was simply sun-kissed.
The Second Dress
After the ceremony, Sofia changed into a short, structured party dress for the evening portion of her event. Inspired by a classic Chanel design worn by Claudia Schiffer, her get-up was custom made so it was light, breezy, and comfortable enough to dance with family and friends all night long. The latest trend of donning multiple wedding gowns or outfits throughout the day is one we can get on board with, especially in paradise. The goal is to ensure your utmost comfort, so if that means swapping your ceremony dress for something shorter at your reception, we’re on your side.
The Grand Finale
End your night off with a bang (literally), just as the happy couple did on that spring day in the South of France. While fireworks are always a hit for guests, they’re also an amazing opportunity to capture some iconic pictures with your partner. Don’t hesitate to ask your LUXE wedding consultant to help you coordinate something special like this. Remember, when it comes to your wedding, no detail is too small and no request is too large. This is your day after all!
