4 Tips for Throwing the Perfect Welcome Party

Nizuc Resort & Spa in Cancun has blown us away once again with a beach event that translates effortlessly into a picture-perfect welcome party. Destination weddings often bring together friends and family from all over the globe and a welcome party is a great way for everyone to get to know each other. With inspiration from Nizuc Resort & Spa, we have put together our top four suggestions on how to throw a flawless welcome party.

Keep it casual

Save the glam for your wedding day to ensure that everyone will be truly blown away for the main event. Keep the welcome party more casual with understated and simple décor and floral. Play up the natural beauty of the location with lighting, furniture, food and great music.

Make it social

As we mentioned, welcome parties are a great way for your friends and families to get to know each other. We suggest having lots of communal seating so that your guests can mix and mingle with different groups.  Nizuc did an incredible job of showcasing various seating options such as lounge seating, imperial tables with bar stools and low cocktail seating. They even included a swing set for added entertainment!

Incorporate local flavours

If you’re getting married in Mexico, it’s worth it to tap into the local flavors as much as possible. You can do this by adding a Tequila bar & signature cocktail, decorating with local greenery and floral, using candy filled piñatas, and serving traditional Mexican cuisine such as Tacos and Empanadas. We also suggest hiring local entertainment such as a Mariachi band to play for the evening.

Make it stand out from wedding

To make a statement on your wedding day, try not to replicate any ideas from your welcome party. The welcome party should be unique! It’s a great chance to experiment and step outside of your comfort zone. Test your boundaries with different food, décor, floral, lighting and entertainment. Nizuc shows us exactly how to use non-traditional wedding colors at a welcome event with metallics such as bronze and copper, and accent colors in white and gold. Warm lighting and the sunset pair perfectly to help bring out these bold colors even more. We love Nizucs copper chairs, bronze cocktail tables, festive gold accents, decorative white triangle banners and wooden structures.
