LGBTQIA+ weddings are currently legal in 29 countries, including many which we at Luxe Destination Weddings plan in. This Pride Month we wanted to highlight some properties that we think would be wonderful for you to celebrate your big day at!
There are plenty of countries and resorts to consider when choosing the venue for your LGBTQIA+ wedding. One thing to keep in mind when researching a property is to see if they are TAG Approved, or members of the IGLTA (International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association). Your travel representative and wedding consultant will help you find the perfect location to have a legally binding Civil ceremony, or a Symbolic ceremony, which will look and feel just like your dream wedding but involves less paperwork, and helps get around those countries that allow civil partnerships rather than marriages.
Mexico
Same-sex weddings have been legal in Mexico since 2010, and as one of the most popular destinations we have plenty of recommendations on where to host your wedding.
The Hyatt Ziva Cancun is a luxury resort, designed as a small village, with beautiful accommodations, pools that look out over a breathtaking view of the ocean, and exquisite cuisine in its 6 a-la-carte restaurants. When it comes to your wedding ceremony, the only difficulty will be deciding which of its two locations – the Sky Wedding and the Wedding Gazebo – is more beautiful.
The Hotel Xcaret is a wonderfully unique property, with a huge variety of venues in which to hold your ceremony. We absolutely love the Chapel, which sits atop a massive tiered structure reminiscent of ancient Mayan temples, as well as the staircase which provides a stunning backdrop, and the secret coves which offer a much more private feel.
Aruba
Aruba was the first Caribbean island to allow same-sex civil partnerships and while the wedding isn’t legally binding, the country is one of the most LGBTQIA+ friendly in the area.
We love the Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort Spa and Casino, which is a TAG Approved property. The Beach and Palapas offer the perfect destination wedding setting for a ceremony or reception, but we especially love the Pool Deck and the Outdoor Terrace, which have stunning architectural features that really set the mood for the event
Costa Rica
Costa Rica has been one of the most recent countries to legalize same -sex marriage, and we are so thrilled to add them to our list of LGBTQIA+ friendly destinations!
One of our favourite hotels in Costa Rica is the beautiful Dreams Las Mareas. They have such a wide variety of venues to offer, most of which offer incredibly views of the beautiful Costa Rica sunset.
Another all time favourite property of ours in Costa Rica is the luxurious Four Seasons Papagayo. Their spa is truly out of this world! Not to mention, the food their is truly some of the highest caliber you can find in the area. This is the type of property that will really take your guests breath away!
